FAQs

How long and how frequent are typical sessions?

Sessions are generally 45-50 minutes. Most clients are seen once a week or twice a month.  The number of sessions depends on what your current needs and goals are.

How long will I be in counseling?

The length of time a client is in counseling depends the nature of the problem and the goals of the counseling. Some clients have a very specific problem that can be worked through in a set course of counseling. For others, counseling is an on-going learning process and they choose to continue for a longer period.  We will continuously keep track of and discuss your goals and progress.  It is extremely important to me that my clients feel our work is helping them move in the right direction.

What if I want couples counseling, but my partner won't participate?

Unfortunately, sometimes one partner is not as willing as the other to come in for counseling. However, we often find that it is possible to improve the relationship with just one person involved in counseling, focusing on your thoughts, feelings, options, and choices.

What types of insurance do you take?

I accept many types of insurance, including (but not limited to) BCBS, United Health, Cigna, Aetna, GIC, Tri-Care, Harvard Pilgrim, Fallon, Neighborhood Health Plan, and MHN.   I am also a provider for a wide range of Employee Assistance Programs.

Do I need to take medications?

As a clinical social worker, I do not prescribe medications. However, based on a joint assessment of problems you are facing, we may decide it would be advisable to consult with a psychiatrist to determine whether medication may be indicated. Typically, clients see someone under their health insurance coverage or I can refer you to a psychiatrist.
